High profile and longstanding sites that could have a new future
There is a host of building work taking place at any one time in Sheffield - but also some plots and projects that are quiet, stalled or stuck.
This list includes landmark buildings and prominent spaces that could one day help transform the city. At present there's nothing to see on the ground, but for some at least that is set to change. Others we just don't know.
There have been several attempts to bring this Victorian mansion in Chelsea Park, Nether Edge, back to life. But all have failed. The most recent was a plan to convert it back into a house - it was an old people’s home - in 2020. Has been empty since 2010.
Permission for a six-storey office on the corner of Charles and Norfolk streets was granted in November 2022 - after developer Grantside loped off floors in the face of objections.
Currently an old post office shops and offices. York-based Grantside says work will start this year.
Announced in May 2022 as a £12m music hub, Harmony Works in Canada House on Commercial Street is still happening. The ground floor was last used as a Chinese buffet 13 years ago.
