Excel Parking: Developer Harworth explains why it hired VCS for new site at Waverley

A developer has explained why it hired a Sheffield parking firm to control a new site.

Harworth said Vehicle Control Services is an “established operator” and was chosen with the help of professional advisors and in discussion with operators at Olive Lane, Waverley.

Harworth is the master developer at Waverley, a village under construction on the former Orgreave open cast and coking works site.

Olive Lane is its long-awaited shopping street, launched last year.

Vehicle Control Services is part of Excel Parking Services, based in Tinsley.

A spokesperson for Harworth said the car park at Olive Lane offers motorists up to two-and-a-half hours of free parking.

It is controlled by cameras that read number plates provided by VCS to ensure “fair access to spaces and also prevent all-day parking and discourage anti-social behaviour, particularly during late hours.”

The spokesperson added: “As with all providers we work with at Waverley, we continue to monitor and review the effectiveness and value of the services provided."
