Hospice set to close one of its Sheffield fundraising sites as plans drawn up for future
Plans to make operation ‘more sustainable’
Sheffield’s well known St Luke’s Hospice is looking to shut one of its fundraising sites.
Bosses at the charity, which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to people living with a progressive illness for which there is no known cure, say they are looking at changes to make their operation more sustainable in the future.
A network of shops has been set up over the years which help raise the money needed to run the hospice, which does not receive Government money and is paid for by donations.

A spokesman confirmed that they were planning to close the charity’s donation centre at Burngreave.
The donation centre is based on an industrial estate at Petre Street.
A spokesman said: “We are changing the way we do things, and will be stopping accepting donations at our St Luke's Donation Centre to be more sustainable and efficient.”
They said they expected to make further announcements on the plans in the coming weeks.
The Donation Centre has offered a simple drive-in drop-off service for non-furniture items and has been described by the charity in the best as the easiest way to donate.
However, many of the organisation’s shops already take donations, including the large shops it operates at Kilner Way, near Parson Cross, and its Crookes shop which is in a former garage building, both of which have nearby parking.
In total. the charity has 15 shops, largely staffed by volunteers, as well as the donations centre.
They are on The Moor in the city centre, Abbeydale Road, Broomhill, Chapeltown, two in Crookes including a specialist furniture shop, Crystal Peaks, Darnall, Ecclesall Road, Firth Park, Gleadless, Hillsborough, Kilner Way, Nether Edge and Woodseats.
The money they raise pays for the operation of the hospice, which is based in Whirlow. The hospice costs £15.5 million a year to run.
