Heeley post office has been forced to close

A Sheffield post office has been forced to temporarily close due to “staffing issues”.

Heeley Post Office, on Gleadless Road, has been closed since August 20, leaving locals without a nearby place to send letters or parcels.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Heeley Post Office has been temporarily closed since 20 August due to staffing issues. We do not have a re-opening date yet.

“We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers. In the interim alternative branches include Newfield Green, Highfield and Shoreham Street.”

Newfield Green Post Office, on Gleadless Road, is just under a five minute drive and a 15 minute walk from Heeley Post Office.

Highfield Post Office, on London Road, is about a five minute drive, and a 20 minute walk away; and the Shoreham Street branch is also a five minute drive but just under a 25 minute walk away.

The closure follows a robbery at the post office in May, 2026, where two men broke into the Heeley branch and threatened staff before they stole a quantity of cash.

It remains unclear when the branch will re-open.
