Sheffield to get pavement café culture as licensing rules are relaxed due to coronavirus

Eating and drinking al fresco could soon be de rigeur in Sheffield after licensing rules were relaxed to allow more pavement cafés.

Cafés and restaurants have been invited to apply for temporary permission to place tables and chairs outside as part of measures to help businesses get back up and running while preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Companies will not be charged for the right to do so, nor will they need planning permission or scaled architectural plans, and the consent will remain in place until the end of 2020.

Those applying must have hours between 10am and 9pm, and there should be plans in place to restrict attendance and manage the movement of people in and around the premises.

Table service should be provided where possible, businesses are required to collect the details of all customers, and at least 1.3 metres should be left free for pedestrians to pass.
