In recent years timelines have slipped due to the pandemic, Brexit, the war in Ukraine and soaring inflation.
But as 2025 arrives, we can see which developments will come to fruition this year.
Acknowledging the fluidity of forecasting, our list also includes a few we sincerely hope will happen as the 2020s reach their midpoint.

9. Marriott Hotel
This landmark £30m hotel has stood unfinished in Catcliffe, Rotherham, for a year after a cash crunch saw builders down tools and the developer disappear from public view. 2025 is likely to be when ownership passes to landowner Harworth - because the increasingly tatty structure is ruining the area’s image. | National world

10. Citadel
Acquired by Sheffield City Council in autumn, it is set for an as yet unstated new future. Expect an announcement in 2025. Pic shows: Robert Hill, top, who sold the Salvation Army Citadel to Sheffield City Council. Coun Ben Miskell, below. | NW Photo: David Walsh

11. Sheffield Ski Village
The government announced £19m for this key site in November 2023. Sheffield City Council re-announced it before Christmas but has yet to start the huge clean up that will be required. But with other projects coming to a close, 2025 should see attention turn to Parkwood Springs. Pic: David Walsh at the Ski Village in March. | NW Photo: Dean

12. Cannon Brewery
Developer Capital & Centric has the money and has been working behind the scenes for a year or two on this huge housing project in Neepsend. This year, hopefully, work will start on site. | NW Photo: David Walsh
