Further blow for Sheffield’s retail scene as River Island on The Moor to close

River Island will be closing its shop on The Moor later this year

A popular fashion store based right in the heart of Sheffield has confirmed that it’ll be closing its door for the final time in just a few weeks.

River Island - located at 15 The Moor, Sheffield (S1 4PF) - has put up a poster on its window confirming that this summer will be its last in the location before closing its doors for good at the start of September.

The poster reads: “The store is closing Tuesday 1st September. Thanks for shopping with us - we’ve had a blast! You can still shop the latest trends at RiverIsland.com and nearby locations. With love Ri.”

Alongside there is also a poster advertising that there’ll be a 30% discount on a range of items for those wishing to get a last-minute bargain.

River Island has been a key part of Sheffield’s shopping scene in the city centre for a number of years and has attracted thousands of customers.

Originally based in Fargate for a number of years, the store relocated to the Moor in 2019 after Aberdeen Standard Investments pumped more than £100m into the area after buying it in 2010.

This latest closure means customers will now need to travel to Meadowhall if they are to visit the River Island store in person.

It’s the latest setback to people wishing to shop in the city centre, with many locals claiming areas such as The Moor and Fargate lack clothing shops.

Recently, H&M closed its doors on Fargate while residents have been reminiscing on some of the much-loved places like John Lewis and Debenhams which they’d like to see make a comeback.
