Sheffield is set for massive growth in the six years, new residential, commercial, and leisure buildings are being approved left, right and centre - so we put together this list of the biggest projects that are set to make the most impact in the city.
Council leader Tom Hunt has been claiming Sheffield “is on the up” since he took power last year. And in many ways it appears to have turned a corner, thanks to a string of announcements of private and public sector investment.
The biggest recently was £67m for hundreds of new homes in two priority areas - Neepsend and Furnace Hill, near West Bar - from Government body Homes England.
The authority is also hoping for cash to kickstart redevelopment of the area around Midland Railway Station.
The private sector is also active. The huge Attercliffe Waterside housing scheme is set to make significant progress this year as could Wicker Island and Loxley Valley.
The universities have long been significant players in Sheffield. Hallam’s development off Howard Street is set to have a huge impact while the University of Sheffield was central to the city bagging the country’s first Investment Zone set to create £1.2bn of investment and an incredible 8,000 jobs, according to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

13. West Bar Square
This £300m development is set to create a new city centre in Sheffield. It will have shops, sunlit squares and several blocks of flats and offices, many with roof terraces. It is on a plot off Corporation Street. The first phase of two blocks of flats and an office are nearing completion. | Other
14. Hallam University
The university is set to complete three new buildings on City Campus between September and January 2025. The multi-million pound project will see departments relocated from Collegiate Crescent and significantly increase the number of students based around Howard Street. 15. The Compass building will be next to Factory 2050 in Tinsley.
In July last year chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced £80m for the UK's first Investment Zone, matched by £80m from business. It is set to create 8,000 jobs and attract £1.2bn of investment by 2030, he said. The zone is to be based around a new building at Sheffield University's Factory 2050 site in Tinsley to develop technology to make aeroplanes lighter. | UoS
16. Olympic Legacy Park
Already home to a rugby ground, basketball stadium, well-being research centre, academy and University Technical College, the £300m OLP in Attercliffe has much more to come. This year sees the start of a £22m child health technology centre and the unveiling of a masterplan by Kevin McCabe’s Scarborough Group International for the next phase, comprising 1m sq ft of commercial space in an 80-acre area, to include an innovation centre and ‘move-on’ space for more established companies. | Other
