Sheffield is set for massive growth in the six years, new residential, commercial, and leisure buildings are being approved left, right and centre - so we put together this list of the biggest projects that are set to make the most impact in the city.
Council leader Tom Hunt has been claiming Sheffield “is on the up” since he took power last year. And in many ways it appears to have turned a corner, thanks to a string of announcements of private and public sector investment.
The biggest recently was £67m for hundreds of new homes in two priority areas - Neepsend and Furnace Hill, near West Bar - from Government body Homes England.
The authority is also hoping for cash to kickstart redevelopment of the area around Midland Railway Station.
The private sector is also active. The huge Attercliffe Waterside housing scheme is set to make significant progress this year as could Wicker Island and Loxley Valley.
The universities have long been significant players in Sheffield. Hallam’s development off Howard Street is set to have a huge impact while the University of Sheffield was central to the city bagging the country’s first Investment Zone set to create £1.2bn of investment and an incredible 8,000 jobs, according to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

9. Cannon Brewery
Manchester developers want to spend £200m turning this former brewery on Neepsend Lane into 500 homes. Last month they were given £11m of public money to get started. Set to further boost Neepsend's allure. | national world

10. Attercliffe Waterside
The £300m Attercliffe Waterside project is set to feature more than 900 new homes near the Sheffield and Tinsley canal. The 22-acre plot is bounded by Effingham Road and Woodbourn Road and includes Ripon Street open space. Funding for the project will be from private sources. 11. Wicker Island
A £50m development of upmarket flats could be the spark for a new residential neighbourhood in an industrial part of Sheffield city centre. Laurel Works on Nursery Street would feature 268 apartments in three blocks in the newly-named area of 'Wicker Island'. Developers Brickland hope to start on site in summer. | brickland

12. Loxley Valley
This £40m project is that rare thing - a brownfield plot in greenbelt. It is therefore very desirable but also hard to gain approval for. Local developers Sky-House Co are the latest to try. It is proposing 60 houses costing up to £1.5m on the 70-acre Hepworth refractories site along the River Loxley in the Loxley Valley. There hasn't been a storm of objections so far... | other
