Officers attended The Masons Arms on Langsett Road, near Hillsborough, at about 1.40am on 24 October after trouble flared when the pub’s landlady ‘tried to kick customers out of the premises that refused to leave’ – nearly four hours after it should have closed by law.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said they were told six men and women were fighting at the premises but no arrests were made and there were no reported serious injuries.

They added: “There was a suggestion that alcohol may have been served on the premises after the 10pm curfew. Sheffield City Council were notified.”

The pub, which is owned by Punch Taverns, is one of 12 hospitality businesses fined £1,000 by Sheffield City Council for breaking the law, but has appealed the punishment.

The curfew was introduced to keep people safe and potentially save lives.
