The TEN Sheffield takeaways fined thousands for breaching the coronavirus curfew

South Yorkshire Police attended a ‘public disturbance’ at The Masons Arms at about 1.40am on 24 October.

When officers arrived the landlady told them trouble started after she tried ‘to kick customers out of the premises that refused to leave’.

At about 10.25pm on 3 November – two days before the current national lockdown began – enforcement officers from Sheffield City Council spotted two men entering Pepe’s Piri Piri restaurant and picking up a menu before reading it outside.

Shortly after, one of the customers re-entered the restaurant and placed an order, which he paid for in cash.

Ten other hospitality businesses in Sheffield were also fined between September and October for flouting the restrictions, which were brought in to help control the spread of coronavirus.

Sheffield City Council said they all “ignored the advice and warning letters that have been issued to hospitality venues”.

Police also seized 70 shisha pipes from a bar in Wicker on Friday night, which had been open illegally.
