The budget coach operator restarted part of its network today, Friday, July 3, in a bid to help reunite friends and family as lockdown restrictions ease further with the reopening of pubs, restaurants and bars.

Megabus is reopening the Sheffield to London service, which it identified as one of their most popular routes alongside Leeds to London and Bristol to London.

The business said the capital has come out as the ‘top spot to visit’ as the hospitality industry is set to reopen for the first time since March and people are starting to plan staycations and trips away.

All Megabus coaches are now fitted with anti-bacterial stations and protective screens for drivers to provide a physical barrier from customers and slow the spread of coronavirus.

Passengers are now required to wear mandatory face coverings while using public transport in England and Scotland.

The service will be running at significantly reduced capacity with only window seats available on every other row for customers and those who haven’t reserved a space in advance will be allocated a seat on arrival.

Managing Director Mark Venables said: “We’re very pleased to be getting our coaches back out on the road again today.

“We knew from our research that many people were eager to get back to travelling with us and from the bookings we’ve seen for July so far, many people are using our coaches as a way to reconnect with family and friends, or to enjoy the re-opening of leisure facilities around the country.

“It’s no surprise that London has come out as the top destination for people to visit as lockdown restrictions are eased and bars, restaurants and hotels start to re-open in the capital.

“With the extensive safety measures we have in place on our coaches, we’re confident that people will be happy to get on board and explore the freedom that our services can offer.”
