Halifax Sheffield: City centre bank branch on High Street to close, Lloyds Banking Group confirms

The number of Halifax branches in the city will drop from five to four.

A Sheffield city centre bank is set to close because of visits to the branch fallingdramatically over the last few years.

Halifax will close its base on High Street in July after reporting that transactions at the branch fell more than 57 per cent between 2018 and 2023.

A Halifax spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app or online, visits to our Sheffield High Street branch have fallen over recent years.

“When the branch closes in July, customers can continue to manage their money online, by calling us, in person at The Moor branch, or the local Post Office on Charles Street.”

Halifax said 77 per cent of its personal customers already use other ways of banking such as mobile, internet or phone banking, as well as other branches.

The banking giant said the nearby Post Office on Charles Street offers everyday banking services to personal and business customers, including access to cash, paying in cheques and more.

Customers of the High Street branch received a text message from Halifax recently which read: “It's not long now until Sheffield High Street branch closes on 9th July 2024. To find out more about the other ways you can bank with us, please get in touch. We offer support and guidance if you need extra help. Come into our branches, call us on 0345 720 3040 or use Relay UK or BSL SignVideo.”

As well as on The Moor, Halifax also has Sheffield branches in Hillsborough, Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre and Meadowhall.
