Sheffield City Council has submitted plans for signs to be put across Event Central, a £14.4 million project to convert the old Clinton cards shop on Fargate into an events space.

Work on the four-storey site began in August last year, with the council originally saying that the 200-person venue would be finished by the second half of 2026.

The latest plans reveal how a 10.6 metre illuminated sign will be placed down the sign of the building spelling out the words ‘Event Central’.

Letters on the sign will be made of acrylic and illuminated with white lights.

Once completed, the building will also feature a cafe/bar on the ground floor and four floors of offices and meeting rooms.

The project comes after a two-year revamp of Fargate ended in March 2025.

Councillor Ben Miskell, chair of the transport, regeneration and climate policy committee at Sheffield City Council, said in August 2025 that the event space was expected to host a wide-ranging programme of community events, showcases, exhibitions, workshops and talks when work is complete.

He added at he time: “This project will breathe life back into the building, transforming it into a venue we can all be proud of.”
