Fargate - long-known as one of the city centre’s most recognisable streets - is a shopping hotspot which runs between Barker's Pool and High Street.
It’s been pedestrianised since the 1970s, making it an excellent spot for a leisurely walk throughout the day, particularly if you're travelling between the Moor Market and the Cathedral.
It’s got an energetic atmosphere with bars, cafes, restaurants and plenty of independent shops, making it a wonderful destination for students and locals alike to spend the afternoon.
However, Fargate, like many places in the Steel City is everchanging with shops constantly opening and others closing down. Some believe it was better back in the day, while others welcome the change, like the ones that have been carried out by the council over the last few years.
With all that in mind, we decided to ask the people of Sheffield to name something that they’d like to see change on Fargate. And as ever it generated plenty of different opinions.

1. John Lewis
John Earnshaw was one of many to call for John Lewis to make a return to the high street. Pictured here in February 2011.

2. Debenhams
Brandon Walker would like to see Debenhams return to the city centre. Here it is pictured,at the top of The Moor in 1988 | Picture Sheffield/J. Edward Vickers

3. Woolworths
Another much-loved store. Brandon Walker also mentioned Woolthworths. Here is it pictured in Hillsborough in 2008. | Sheffield Newspapers Ltd

4. TJ Hughes
The Discount Department Store TJ Hughes was another popular suggestion with our readers. Here it is pictured in the Sheffield city centre back in October 2012.
