Signs up as new shop opens in high profile city centre spot on famous Sheffield shopping street
Shop had previously been home to O2 store
A new shop is opening on one of Sheffield city centre’s most high profile streets.
Workmen have now fixed the sign over the door at what was previously the O2 mobile phone store, on Fargate, the road which for decades was Sheffield’s main retail street.
Mobiles Gadgets and Vapes has taken over the unit, and staff confirmed that they would be open this week.

The signs state: “We buy - sell - repair - mobile - laptop.”
It is understood the firm operate several stores across the UK, but it is not a household name of the sort which Fargate was once famous for.
It was announced that the O2 shop was closing after more than 10 years at that location in May.
Commercial agent Paul Lancaster said at the time that the firm’s lease was expiring.
The company was advertising the unit and said it is was great opportunity to secure a well-positioned spot on pedestrianised Fargate – ‘one of Sheffield city centre's prime retail pitches’.
Mobiles Gadgets and Vapes is the latest business to open on Fargate, several days after a new Costa opened in what was previously a bank on the street.
Fargate has been the target of major investment by Sheffield Council to try to revitalised it, with the council spending millions on work carried out there.
Three years of Sheffield Council-funded improvements to Fargate have been carried out. The street has been repaved, with new benches installed and "pocket parks" created.
The work was only completed in the spring of 2025, after years of disruption to the road, which was once home to some of some of the most prestigious retail brands in the city.
