The charity has opened its 2025 Winter exhibition, labelled ‘Concrete Dreamz’, to raise awareness for South Yorkshire's rough sleepers. The message is simple: imagine sleeping on concrete.

The exhibition is being held at Cambridge Street Collective Food Hall in the City Centre The Archer Project, which is connected to Sheffield Cathedral, supports homeless and vulnerable people, offering a pathway from street homelessness to a new life.

Talya Stitcher, 30, the Archer Project’s communications and fundraising officer, said: “The main point is to just get people through the door, get them talking to us and try and help people understand more about how complex and layered homelessness is.

“The wintertime is a really difficult time for people experiencing homelessness. We've already helped over 1,100 people just this year. Obviously, with the weather, but also the social exclusion when everyone's rushing around doing Christmas shopping, it's quite a joyous time for many, but for a lot of the people we support, it's not a very positive time of year.”

The Steel City-based charity was founded in 1989 and moved to the Cathedral in 2007, and provides meals, housing services, showers, clothing, and many other vital needs, such as medical care.

Joseph Beck, 20, said: “Events like these really highlight what people go through, and it really makes me think about how lucky I am to not only have a bed, but a roof over my head, instead of a concrete slab”

The ‘Concrete Dreamz’ exhibition started on Friday November 28 and is open till Friday December 12, and is open from 9 am to 4 pm every day.

Ms Stitcher continued further and said: “We would love people to come in and talk to us about what they think of the exhibition and find out how they can help the Archer project as well.

“We also this morning launched our Aviva Crowdfunder, which means that every donation given at the link on our website will be matched up to £250 per payment by the Aviva Community Fund.

“So it's a really, really easy, simple way for people to make double the impact when they want to give a gift to the Archer Project.”
