Devon Chapman, who is studying medicine at the University of Sheffield and wants to be a paediatric oncologist, had everyone fooled on the hit new BBC One show on Saturday night until the penny dropped when she took to the stage with guest star Ronan Keating.

The 23-year-old who appeared under the title ‘Junior Doctor’, managed to hoodwink people based on her lip-synching skills and calm under interrogation into believing that she was a real singer.

That was despite not being able to hold a note, as became all too clear when she took to the stage for a duet with the former Boyzone singer of his hit Life is a Rollercoaster.

Her awful singing had the pop star cringing as they performed together, and it emerged that Devon, who hails from Burnley, loves singing but people often ask her to stop.

Asked by host Paddy McGuinness how she found the time to practise and get the lip-synching so spot-on with such a demanding career, she replied: “I’m just really good but I don’t have the voice unfortunately.”

She said she planned to put her winnings ‘half towards med school, half towards having a good time’.

Despite her appalling voice, her gutsy performance, in which she didn’t hold back, and the fact she is a junior doctor helped endear her to viewers.

Dr Richard Ma tweeted: “#JuniorDoctor was a terrible singer but I'm really pleased she won the £10k. She probably needed it more!”

Zoe Somebody wrote: “Glad the junior doctor got the money.”

@HayleyRob84 commented: “OMG, I love this show. The junior doctor was a legend, haha! Just loving life on stage with Ronan.”Dating In The Suburbs @suburb_single

And @sparky023rays said: “Congrats Devon #icanseeyourvoice. Shame the contestants didn't win, but I'm glad a trainee doctor did, especially for your chosen route of medicine.”

Father and son Shash and Saaj from Crawley missed out on the chance to win £10,000, after deciding Devon was a good singer before she took to the stage and shattered their illusions.
