Following a run of ten losses, Sheffield Steeldogs were determined to end that slide- and they did with some style with an 8 -2 win over Manchester Phoenix.

They had lost to the Manchester the previous weekend and when Robin Kovar hammered in a power play strike there were concerns that an eleventh loss was on the cards. However two quick goals from Bosas and Brcko put the Dogs in front.

Back up netminder Brandon Stones was making his first start of the season and he was left exposed when Bebris broke away to level the score at 24:15.

Sheffield had the better of the possession and as the period progressed so did the pressure on the Manchester net.

Just past the halfway point, Bosas finished off a great power play with a goal and then Heywood made it 4-2 before the big Lithuanian completed his hat-trick.

Recent form meant a three goal advantage was no time to sit back and when Ben Morgan fired home his first goal of the year, it finally felt like the pressure was off. Goals from Calvert and Heywood put the cherry on the long awaited win for the Steeldogs, 8-2.

Coach Greg Wood was pleased with the performance: "We have had a real energy and buzz in training through the week and that carried on to the ice. All three lines delivered and we had complete commitment and buy in to delivering the win.

"We always had a plan that there would be games where we'd rest Jimmy (James Hadfield) and Brandon took his opportunity to shine. It was his first start in the league but I had confidence in him and he delivered.

"We've been getting close in recent games and tonight we got the win the guys efforts really deserved".

Sunday evening proved less positive as mistakes and penalties cost them the game against Guildford.

The Flames took control of a scrappy first period, scored first and then extended the lead in the final seconds.

Seven minutes into the middle period and the Flames had extended their lead to four goals. Goals from Palak and Mrna late in the period gave some hope but the Flames ground out the win, topped off with another power play goal to make a final score of 5-2.

Steeldogs will be back in action at iceSheffield on Wednesday December 28th (7:30 face-off) playing the Hull Pirates.
