The Blades improved from last weekend’s 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United but went down to goals from Jarred Bowen and Tomas Soucek in the first half. United went closest through Oli McBurnie’s scuffed effort but remain bottom of the Premier League table.
Here’s how we rated United’s players in the capital.
5. Jack Robinson 6
Couldn’t quite do enough to prevent Soucek putting West Ham 2-0 ahead as he got to the ball a split-second before Robinson but otherwise he was defensively solid enough, and calm under pressure on the ball as well
6. Luke Thomas 5
Will have had a nervy few moments after two potential penalty calls in a few moments, one for handball and another after a tussle with Antonio at the back stick. Was wasteful in good crossing positions and the first goal came from down his side, but I’m putting that more down to good play from West Ham to work the opening rather than any fault of Thomas’
7. Vini Souza 5
Showed good defensive instincts to get back and snuff out a chance for Antonio after the striker looked to pull the trigger in the second half. But also surrendered possession too often, including once in a dangerous area before he bundled over his man and gave Ward-Prowse an early chance to test Foderingham’s handling from ideal range
8. Gus Hamer 5
Gave away possession so cheaply with a stray pass intended for Bogle on the right wing and seven seconds or so later the ball was in the back of the United net for 2-0. Coudln’t get real control of the ball and gave it away far more than he’d have liked before making way for Slimane
