The figure to avoid relegation in the Championship is touted as 50 points and a derby-day draw against high-flying Huddersfield town at the weekend saw them hit that figure.

The club are eight points off the play-offs and the players are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.

“The aim was 50 points,” admitted Davies, pictured, who has made the most saves in the second tier this term. That’s what people say you need to be safe in this league, so anything now is a bonus for us.

“We don’t talk about the play-offs. We just take it game by game. I know it’s a cliche, but it’s the best way.”

Davies won the man-of-the-match award against the Terriers and the 24-year-old’s shot-stopper’s mum claimed his bottle of champagne.

He added: “My mum texted me asking for the bottle straight after the game.

“I made some saves, but that’s what I’m there to do.

“The lads made some terrific blocks on the line so it’s not just me. Everyone deserves credit for keeping them out.

“It was fantastic defending. The lads threw their bodies at everything that came their way and I made the saves when needed, so it was all good.

“It was a proper derby, hustle and bustle.

“We didn’t get in their faces enough first half. We spoke about it at half-time and executed it better after the break.”
