The leader of Sheffield Council has been ousted by the Green Party in a major blow for Labour at the local elections.

Bob Johnson lost his Hillsborough seat to Green candidate Christine Gilligan Kubo, who received 2,337 votes to his 2,013, giving her a 324 majority.

Mr Johnson had only become council leader in December, taking over from Julie Dore.

The Star reporter Lucy Ashton described called the result a ‘devastating’ blow for Labour in Sheffield.
