Police officers in Sheffield are warning of burglars prowling the streets looking for unlocked doors and windows during the hot spell.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The weather is forecast to be bright this next couple of days, so if spending time in your gardens relaxing please ensure any doors and windows you cannot see are locked and that handbags and car keys are out of reach."

Officers are investigating a burglary in Queens Road, Beighton, after a door was left unlocked.

The offender stole the keys to a car parked outside the house and drove off in the vehicle.

On Saturday morning an insecure garage was broken into on Fishponds Road West, Woodthorpe and a Honda motorcycle chained up inside was stolen.

Frecheville Community Centre in Sheffield was also broken into over the weekend.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
