A young man was sprayed in the face with a noxious substance by a passing driver in South Yorkshire.

The 24-year-old was seriously injured in the attack, which took place outside a takeaway in Barnsley.

Police said the man was standing outside the takeaway in Barnsley Road last Friday (February 10) between 8.30pm and 9pm when he was assaulted.

A silver car drove past and the male driver sprayed an unknown substance in his face.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to dial the non-emergency police number 101, quoting the incident code 961 of February 10.
