Two more coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sheffield this evening, bringing the total number in the city to three.

The latest cases were confirmed by Public Health England on the day the number of UK cases of the COVID-19 virus rose by 134 to 590 – the biggest daily increase to date.

There are now six confirmed cases of the virus in South Yorkshire, with two in Barnsley, one in Rotherham and none so far in Doncaster.

He wrote to school headteachers today assuring them that Sheffield was ‘well prepared’ for cases of the virus but urging them to continue to promote the importance of washing hands properly.
