Dust off your legwarmers, sprinkle your sparkle and get ready to party like it’s the 80s and 90s all over again, as a camp cabaret comes to Sheffield bringing Christmas cheer.

The Glitterbomb Dancers – all of whom are Yorkshire based – are back with a show written especially for Theatre Deli in Sheffield, dragging A Christmas Carol to a whole new audience.

Carol! It’s Christmas, is a fantastical camp night of comic genius, with high energy and high kicks taking centre stage – this is a Christmas night out like no other. Think drag act meets musical meets concert, where the audience are expected to sing, shout and share their clips on socials, as this feel good night out is all about fun and spreading the joy.

And while you don’t need to worry about being in the spotlight – that’s purely for the cast – audiences can join in at every stage, including dressing up as their 80s or 90s icon and making this an unforgettable night of fun.

The show revolves around a Scrooge-like boss, Carol, who thinks Christmas high jinks are silly. Through the ghosts of Chers past, present and future, The Glitterbomb Dancers persuade her fantastic festivities are where the fun’s at, and will have you belting out hits to turn this Dickensian drama into a poptastic pleasuredome.

Show producer and co-director/writer Joseph Mercier says the brand new show has been written with adults in mind (though mature teens may love it) and says it’s for the LGBTQ audience and beyond.

“This definitely isn’t a play, and it can be hard to define … it’s a cabaret show, a dance show, a comedy show and a drag show; basically it’s a musical and a concert all in one, and will be hugely fun.”

The Glitterbomb Dancers are no strangers to putting on a successful show. Last year they produced Cracked Nuts for the University of Sheffield, and back in 2013 were described by the Guardian as one of the best dance pieces of the year.

This new run has 14 Sheffield performances, and it will be your only chance to catch it in 2023, before it goes on tour next year.

Expect to be amused, provoked and thoroughly entertained – and with this much fun on offer, you’d better be quick to guarantee getting tickets. Large groups are also welcome, including work Christmas parties and community groups. Catering and drinks packages can also be organised
