The concert will take place in the venue's Oval Hall on Thursday, November 19, with Mariano Chiacchiarini conducting. Acclaimed pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason will also return to the city as the soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466.

The programme will begin with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave), a work inspired by the composer's visit to Staffa in Scotland. After encountering the island's sea cave and its echoing waves, Mendelssohn sketched the opening theme on a postcard while travelling. The finished overture evokes the movement and atmosphere of the Scottish coastline.

Kanneh-Mason will then take centre stage for Mozart's concerto, which combines dramatic intensity with lyrical passages and places both the pianist and orchestra in the spotlight.

Following the interval, the Stuttgart Philharmonic will perform Sibelius's Symphony No. 5. Inspired by the natural world, the symphony opens with expansive horn calls evoking a Nordic sunrise and ends with six chords punctuated by silence.

The performers are Mariano Chiacchiarini as conductor and Jeneba Kanneh-Mason on piano. The full programme is Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave), Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, and Sibelius's Symphony No. 5.
