Sheffield students collaborate with English Touring Opera on new film

English Touring Opera has partnered with filmmaking students from Sheffield Hallam University to produce a new 13-minute screen opera.

Titled The Knot, the production features two singers and a string quartet examining themes of home and belonging.

Filming took place at prominent local sites, including the town hall and Park Hill flats, pairing university students with professional crews.

The film forms part of ETO unboxed, an initiative exploring multidisciplinary formats for opera.

Robin Norton-Hale, CEO and Artistic Director of English Touring Opera, said: "We were delighted to work with the fantastic filmmaking students from Sheffield Hallam on this project.

“Filmed soon after we relocated to Sheffield, working with Sheffield Hallam on The Knot was the perfect opportunity to forge new links with our local cultural community”.

The initiative was delivered alongside the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute, which offers degree programmes in film and TV production.
