Launched on social media, Soul and Social club is a sober community group for women aged 18-30 to reconnect with new and childhood hobbies.

The all-female community group, which started just eight months ago at the beginning of 2026, has proved popular among young women in Sheffield.

Co-owners Grace Wood and Fiona Kwan are both university students and influencers who set up the inclusive club to give women a space to connect with like-minded girls.

Fiona Kwan said: “We really encourage people to come by themselves and these might be women who just moved for university, freshers week didn't go well, their course might be really tiny or they might be living at home.”

Grace Wood said: “We live in a world where everything is online, so we wanted to bring new hobbies, bring new sports and activities and the arts.”

The range of activities the community group offers are extremely vast. From monthly book clubs to rock climbing and ballet classes, they have put in their all to ensure there is something for everyone.

Through each activity, the girls are shining a light on Sheffield hotspots, independent businesses and all the go-to local spaces.

They’ve held spin classes at Ink Dance, diving sessions at Ponds Forge and book clubs at Gaard in Kelham.

Kwan said: “Sheffield is such an interesting city where everything's really tight knit and everyone knows each other, but I feel like at the same time it's not big enough, like Leeds or Manchester to feel really insignificant.”

It was through TikTok and Instagram that Soul and Social club grew in popularity and recognition. Since launching at the end of January this year, they have surpassed 2,400 followers and often reach capacity at each of their events.

Kwan said: “We initially made many TikToks and it literally just blew up. I think it's because there's such a demand for this.

The community has grown into a huge support system of young women and girls in Sheffield who all show up for each other and meet regularly outside of organised events.

Wood said: “So many people have said they feel they've got a space where they belong and they don't feel as alone now.

“We've also had parents of people who attended the events message us and said, so-and-so was struggling and felt alone when they went to university and your community has helped them.”

Looking ahead, the community has no plans to slow down as they continue to expand their calendar of alcohol-free events.

Next up is an outdoor swim.
