Mortgage adviser backs local tennis club to support Sheffield community
Award-winning mortgage adviser Julian Sobey, owner of South Yorkshire-based Sobey Mortgages, has announced the company's sponsorship of Thorncliffe Tennis & Pickleball Club.
Julian said that investing back into the community is just as important as serving it.
"Being part of the local community has always been at the heart of what we do," said Julian. "I don't just work here – I live here, my family is here, and I genuinely care about the people and organisations that make this area such a great place to live."
Following a fundraising campaign that secured the future of the tennis and pickleball club, its facilities have been transformed and membership continues to grow.
The club prides itself on being affordable, welcoming and inclusive, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds through sport.
Julian is no stranger to the courts himself.
"I absolutely love playing tennis. It's a brilliant way to keep active, meet new people and switch off from the busy working week. I've been made to feel so welcome at Thorncliffe, and after seeing first-hand the passion of the volunteers and members, sponsoring the club felt like a natural decision."
Julian added: "As a business owner, you can simply trade within a community, or you can become part of it. I firmly believe local businesses should support local clubs wherever possible.
"Organisations like Thorncliffe Tennis & Pickleball Club rely on volunteers, local sponsorship and community backing to continue providing opportunities for everyone, whether they're picking up a racket for the first time or have been playing for decades.
"It's about investing in something that benefits local people. Strong communities are built on local businesses, local clubs and local people supporting one another. I'm proud that Sobey Mortgages can play a small part in helping Thorncliffe continue its fantastic work, and I hope it encourages others to support community organisations too."
