BBC presenter to bring Sheffield club rivals together for Prostate United run
They may be fierce rivals on the pitch, but Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are joining forces off it this week in support of another club – Prostate United.

Staff members and fans of the Yorkshire clubs are set to put their rivalries aside to join BBC Radio Sheffield presenter and commentator Adam Oxley on a 10km run on Friday, October 23, as part of their Prostate United effort.
Owls assistant manager Matt Hamshaw and Blades lead first team strength and conditioning coach Nathan Winder will run from Hillsborough to Bramall Lane and back on Friday afternoon, where they’ll also be joined by Rotherham United head of performance and medicine Ross Burbeary, one of the founders of Prostate United.

The Steel City run is being led by Adam, who is a long-standing supporter of Prostate Cancer UK having lost his dad, Glen, to the disease in 2019. He hopes fans from across the region will join him on the run, which is due to get under way at 2.45pm on Friday afternoon.
“There aren’t many bigger rivalries in football than Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, with the city split in two on derby day,” he said. “Both clubs have been long-term supporters of Prostate United and when it comes to the challenge, the Blades and Owls have a joint rival – prostate cancer.
“It will be fantastic to see Owls and Blades supporters get involved in the run, whether they’re taking on the challenge or not – and it’s not exclusive to just the Sheffield clubs, with Rotherham United staff already confirming they’ll be joining in too.”
Glen was a popular figure in the city’s sporting scene having played for Sheffield FC and Hallam FC and Adam, who is taking on 10km a day as part of his 2027 London Marathon training, says Friday’s run will hold added significance given his dad’s footballing history.
“The challenge means so much to me and my family, having lost my dad to prostate cancer in 2019. He was from Sheffield, an excellent player, and a proud advocate of football in the Steel City, so would have loved to see fans and staff come together in support of a common cause,” Adam added.
