As a fan of the Blades, I am less than thrilled with the current status of the club. After a disaster of a season last year, which saw a 13th place finish salvaged by Chris Wilder from a Ruben Selles wreck, I was hopeful for a rebuild and a push for the recently expanded playoffs, despite our tragic loss to Sunderland in the final two years ago.

"They'll only drop down again next season" we told ourselves on the train home from Wembley, especially following the previous two seasons, in which all three of the teams promoted from the Championship saw themselves drop back the following season.

Thus, after seeing Sunderland manage to achieve a season in the Europa League due to a 7th place finish last year, I was hopeful not only for promotion for Sheffield United this season, but also the possibility that the team may stay up and even thrive in the Premier League following the example of the same team we were briefly 2-0 up against.

It seemed that all we needed to reset after last season was a good few deals in the transfer market, however it seems that we do not have the money nor the capability to pull this off, despite the departures of the fan favorite Andre Brooks to Norwich as well as the blades talisman Gustavo Hamer, who made a venture back to the Premier League with his former club Coventry.

Recently, I have held conversations with my grandpa about the transfer window, including many discussions around the Blade's clear target Harry Souttar, who had come to Bramall Lane previously on loan from Leicester before a season ending injury.

My grandfather liked his strong presence in the defense alongside another target and former United player, Anel Ahmedhodžić. Similar to these players, my grandpa grew up with United players such as the famed Eddie Colquhoun, a strong defender and stalwart for the club in the 1960s.

Although bids reported to be upwards of £8 million have been rejected by Leicester City, me and many fans are cautiously hopeful for the season ahead, especially after the few and far between transfers that have occurred, such as the re-signing of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

Despite my unrest at this transfer window as well as the discourse among fans on the looming season, I am personally very hopeful for the season to come. As a young fan of the Blades, I will be happy to attend games and support the club win, lose or draw, and try to enjoy the football with my grandpa as I always have done.
