The 36-year-old, who has been one of the club’s foremost performers in recent weeks, is out with broken ribs having played through pain over the last couple of weeks.

In a statement on social media Westwood said: “Gutted I’m not with the lads tonight. I’ve been playing with a pain in my ribs for the last two weeks which I put down to being bruised.

“But an x-ray has confirmed I’ve broken my ribs. Football is a contact sport and unfortunately these things happen and I’ll try to get back as soon as I can.

“I’ll be supporting the boys, hoping we can get a victory tonight.”
