Youngsters clown around at community fun day

YOUTH workers in a Sheffield suburb hope a successful community fun day will help boost numbers at the youth club - and get bored kids off the streets.

They organised the fun day in Stannington to demonstrate the range of activities available at the weekly youth club.

Organisers arranged a variety of entertainment, suitable for all ages, and managed to get all generations of the community mixing.

The fun day in Lower Stannington Park, Deer Park Road, was attended by Sheffield's Lord Mayor Arthur Dunworth, who officially opened the event.

A climbing wall, bouncy castle Caribbean brass band, dance performances and a Punch and Judy show were among the activities on offer.

Youngsters also made Halloween masks during arts and craft sessions.

Youth club volunteer Lucy Birks said: "It was a great success and really helped bring the community together.

"It showed young people what is on offer for them at the youth club and we are expecting a number of new faces this week because of it.

"It was good to see parents getting involved and to see people of all ages mixing."

The youth club is held at Stanwood Methodist Church, Stannington Road, every Thursday from 5.30pm to 8.15pm.
