SOUTH Yorkshire rockers The Sherlocks say they are in a “ David versus Goliath” battle for number one in the official album chart and today urged fans to help them in one final push before the result on Friday.

The four-piece are currently in second place in the mid-week charts with their fifth record Everything Must Make Sense!

And they with fan support they are hoping for what could be a career-best result, writes Richard Derbyshire.

“As an independent band we are up against the giants, and we can’t do it without you,” the band told fans in a joint statement, adding: “This is bigger than us. We are 100% independent, no label, no backing, just heart and your belief in our band.”

Kiaran Crook, his brother and drummer Brandon, from Bolton On Dearne, along with lead guitarist Alex Procter and bassist Trent Jackson are appealing to fans to download the record for £4.99 or buy records or CDs rather than streaming to boost their chances, as it takes thousands of streams to match one download or record.

They are in a transatlantic race for the top spot with Tennessee-born country star Morgan Wallen who is pipping them to the top spot with his record I’m The Problem. The 32-year-old first found fame on the US version of The Voice, has appeared on Saturday Night Live, and has had three number one albums on the US Country charts.

On Monday, they made a last-minute appearance at HMV in Meadowhall, Sheffield to boost sales, before instore signings and live performances today - Tuesday, May 20 - at HMV Manchester (2pm) and Jacaranda Records, Liverpool (7pm).

The band added: “We are in the tightest fight for something we never thought was possible. We can’t say numbers, but every single action could tip the balance. If you are meaning to buy the album, now Is the time to do it. If you already have, tell one person, that is how the movement spreads.

“We have always been the underdogs, and we have come this far together, let’s finish it together. Let's do something unforgettable, let’s make history!

“It is the best album we have ever made.”
