Witness some acts of carriage

AFTER plying festival punters from Florence to deepest Poland with their new tunes iLikeTrains are finally ready to release their full debut album.

New single The Deception was the majestic taster out last week in which the Leeds bunch told how proud determination and courageous spirit can fog the natural instinct of survival, with disastrous consequences, all through the eyes of an ill-fated round the world yachtsman. It was accompanied by a self-directed video featuring a voiceover from '60s radio presenter and shipping forecaster Peter Jefferson.

Self-produced in an old chapel in their home town, the album Elegies To Lessons Learnt (out Oct 1) has been given a mix of subtle power by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Hope of the States) and lyrically continues the band's inimitable obsession with past character and events, tying together their morose message of doomed inevitability.

It follows acclaim for their mini-album Progress Reform which compounded something of a cult status. They wire up to Plug on Tuesday.
