Seriously, who doesn’t love fireworks?!
Well this year, South Yorkshire-based Galactic Fireworks is hosting its first annual Firework Competition in the region, to get people in the mood for bonfire night.
The event, which will be held at Dinnington High School on Saturday September 29, will see three teams of amateur fireworks-lovers battle it out to win the coveted ‘Galactic Fireworks Trophy,’ in the UK;s biggest consumer fireworks competition to date. If your family loves fireworks – this really is the event for you.
The three amateur teams will each light up the skies for seven minutes throughout the evening, followed by a grand finale by Galactic Fireworks themselves. And the catch, the three teams can only use consumer fireworks to create their displays.
“Professional fireworks look incredible, and the whole display is timed and runs electronically, at the push of a button,” said Nigel Turver, who launched
Galactic Fireworks in Dinnington over 35 years ago.
“With this competition, all the fireworks used must be consumer fireworks, and there’s no electronics, meaning that each team of four people must be organised and choreograph the whole thing, as they’ll be lighting it all by hand.”
Each team has a budget of £1,000 for their displays and, as the fireworks cost so much, there will be no practice runs. Everything must be worked out beforehand – and then it’s a case of fingers crossed and hope for the best.
Olivia Burton, from Little Wolf Events, said: “Anyone who has been to our Halloween Spooktacular at Wentworth Woodhouse in the last two years will know how amazing Galactic Fireworks’ firework displays are, so this is a treat not to be missed.”
“As well as the beautiful displays, there will also be stalls selling delicious hot food, bars, fairground rides and attractions, making this a perfect event for the whole family.”
Nigel, a self-proclaimed fireworks geek, added: “We’ll be judging based on the overall effects of the display – the pleasant use of patterns and colours, crackles and whistles, we don’t just want bang, bang, bang – the length must be as precise as possible, and of course we’ll be on the lookout for the best ending. These amateurs know and love fireworks, so we’re expecting some really special displays from them.
“It’s guaranteed to be a beautiful night, perfect for fireworks lovers.”
