Week of action to cut crime

A WEEK-long programme of activities is under way on a Sheffield estate in a bid to cut crime and antisocial behaviour.

The Week of Action, in Winn Gardens, Middlewood, has been organised by agencies and community groups, including Middlewood Winners tenants group, South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Homes and Sheffield Council.

The aim is to improve life by tackling issues including anti-social behaviour, graffiti, vandalism, arson.

Police and Sheffield Homes representatives were today meeting residents at the Fairlawns GP surgery, 2pm-4pm, to hear their concerns. Connexions representatives are holding a drop-in session from 4.30pm-6.30pm at The Pavilion to give help with CV writing, job applications and training courses. The week culminates in an Information Day on Saturday.

Acting Insp John Kirkham said: "The week of action is an ideal opportunity for the police and partnership agencies to support and work with the community."
