Waste sites make grade

TWO new sites where householders can dispose of biodegradable waste are set to be created in north Derbyshire.

If the plans go ahead, people will be able to deposit garden cuttings, kitchen waste and cardboard at facilities in Deepsick Lane in Arkwright Town and Smith's Void, off Rylah Hill, Glapwell.

Waste deposited at the sites would be turned into compost. The process would take place undercover to prevent noise and smell affecting people living in the surrounding area.

Coun Brian Lucas, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for environmental services, said: "Both sites were used for industry in the past, have good transport links and their location means they would have the least impact on local people and the environment.''
