University wins plaudits

THE University of Sheffield has been named the second best in Yorkshire in a new league table.

York University took top spot in the Sunday Times table which was drawn up by looking at student satisfaction, teaching and research quality, degree results achieved, student to staff ratios, graduate unemployment levels and course dropout rates.

The university, which ranked 21st in the country, was described by judges as "one of the powerhouses of British higher education".

Sheffield Hallam University was named sixth best in Yorkshire and 68th nationally.
