Mr Sharpe, aged 62, had ridden his bike to work every day over the 14-and-a-half years he worked at Gunstones.

Today colleagues paid tribute to a "helpful and polite" man whom everybody liked.

Elaine Neale, HR manager at the firm, said: "He was a long-serving employee and his death is a big loss to us.

"He was a very unassuming guy - he just got on with his job and got on with everybody. Everybody liked him - he was always polite, he always said 'good morning' and 'goodnight' in the evening.

"He will be sadly missed by everyone."

Derbyshire Police are investigating the collision, which happened at around 2.10pm on Thursday on the roundabout junction with Stubley Lane and the entrance to Sainsbury's supermarket.

Witnesses should call 01773 572929, where they can leave a message for the investigating officer who will then return their call.
