Treat for steam fans

STEAM buffs can admire two veteran engines at a family fun day at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet next month.

The final family open day of the season is on Sunday October 7 from 11.30am to 4pm. Visitors will be treated to a colourful and noisy display of steam rollers, traction engines and road locomotives.

The annual event will feature the mighty 15-tonne steam roller Leviathan - whose name means 'a very large or powerful thing'. Leviathan was 100 years old last year and will take pride of place at the gathering alongside 118-year-old steam roller Victoria, on display for the last time before a major overhaul.

Admission is 3 for adults, 2 for concessions and free for children.
