Treading the boards to put Eid in the picture

MULTI-cultural theatre shows and musical performances are being held at Sheffield's Abbeydale Picture House during an event to mark the Muslim festival of Eid.

The programme takes place between 2pm and 10pm on Sunday October 21 at the Abbeydale Road venue.

Among the highlights will be a drama by Rotherham-based drama group Open Minds Theatre Company, focusing on the experiences of first and second generation Kashmiris living in South Yorkshire. There will also be traditional music performed by groups including Pakistan-based act Tazeem Khan and Party Qawaali.

Tanwir Rauf, of Abbeydale Picture House, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer the people of Sheffield the chance to enjoy their very own Eid show. "It will make a change for many in the area who often have to travel further to be able to enjoy a similar evening of family entertainment.

"We are keen to ensure that talented artists from South Yorkshire are given an opportunity to shine and we hope that this event becomes an annual fixture on Sheffield's cultural calendar."

Tickets cost 5 and can be ordered by calling Tanwir on 0787527110. Entry is free for senior citizens and under-16s.
