'Visit Hillsborough Park - you won't be disappointed' - Reader's letter

Matthew Smith gives a shout out to Hillsborough Park...

Hillsborough Park in Sheffield has been in the news in recent months for some wrong reasons with reports of antisocial behaviour, crime and a number of assaults.

This is not representative of the area or the park itself, and is not a reason to avoid it.

Last Sunday I had a walk around the park from end to end around the duck pond, the former Hillsborough Hall which now houses Hillsborough Branch library and encountered no problems at all.

It is a fact of life that there will always be a minority who want to ruin things for everyone, but that should not put people off visiting what is in my opinion a good area with plenty of reasons to visit.

New visitors to the area interested in history and culture are reccomended to try having a walk around the park taking in the walled garden, a look in Hillsborough branch library housed in the Grade 2 listed former Hillsborough Halls built in 1797 are a must, followed by a visit to the excellent Cupola Art Gallery just after the Leppings Lane tram stop near Hillsborough Primary School and the superbly restored former Hillsborough Baths and Hillsborough Barracks will also be of interest.

Hillsborough is also of course only a fifteen minute walk away, five minute drive away from the beautiful Rivelin Valley.

Visit Hillsborough Park and Cupola Gallery if you get chance, you won't be disappointed.
