It's brought 21st century dining and a cocktail bar to the new look world famous Barnsley Market.
And when the shutters come down to the market the fun continues on the upper floor, where Market Kitchen is home to the Cucina Sky Lounge bar and 10 other eat and drinks outlets, offering tastes from around the world, many of them like Cucina now opening late and extended to 11.30pm on Thursdays to Saturdays during the Christmas period. Market Kitchen has seating for more than 500 people and there's a terrace offering outdoor seating and views across the new public square.
Just a two minute walk from the transport interchange and accessible day and night via stairs and a lift from the May Day Green entrance to the market building, it is an early phase of the £180m Glass Works - Barnsley's biggest ever redevelopment to completely change the face of the town centre by 2021.
Yet to come the Glass Works will boast a 13 screen Cineworld and a Superbowl bowling alley. And to compliment Market Kitchen, its independent food court, there will be seven restaurants, 25 shops and parking for 670 cars.
Market Kitchen, officially opened in October, has been fitted with comfy seats including sofas and booths, mixed with low and high seating as well as new tables.
It has free Wi-Fi and charging plugs, making it an ideal venue to eat, drink, work and relax.
Three market cafés, which continue to serve up classic English breakfasts and traditional favourites, have been joined by an exciting range of street food outlets offering a wide choice of cuisine – including Thai, Indian and Balkan food.
There is also a dessert specialist, coffee house and a fully-licenced bar to complete the new offer.
Food outlets are encouraged to source ingredients directly from the market or from local providers, helping to sustain the local economy.
Market Kitchen is home to:
Cucina Sky Lounge – serving favourite tipples including cocktails, gins, lagers and craft beer, with live music Thursday to Sunday. Check out its special Christmas cocktails.
Rajah – rustling up Indian favourites including curries and sundries.
Breeze Bros Wood fired Pizza Co – serving pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven. It even boasts a Christmas dinner pizza, with turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings.
Khao Niew – serving Thai dishes including curries, noodles and more.
Jar Bar – bringing a taste of the Balkan peninsula to Barnsley, including tasty grilled meats and salads.
Quack – specialising in rotisserie duck dishes
Dolly’s Desserts – a range of traditional and wacky desserts including ice cream, cakes, cookie dough, crepes, waffles and more.
Daddy Beanz Coffee – roasts its own beans in Barnsley and sells its own specially brewed blend for Market Kitchen.
Hilton’s, Kay’s and Paul’s cafés – home of traditional British favourites including breakfasts, pies, burgers and more.
