Hundreds of Sheffielders turned out for the ‘Craft + Flea’ market at Sheffield Cathedral on Saturday – one of the rare summer events to have gone ahead during the pandemic.

More than 40 local traders, curators, and vintage makers gathered under one roof for the event, which operated a ‘one-in, one-out’ policy to satisfy new Covid-19 restrictions.

"This is actually our postponed event from March that we’ve rearranged,” explained events manager Emma Ward.

"We’ve brought together a great mixture of local talent, with independent makers, designers, producers, and collectors, each handpicked for their quality, on-trend products, and it’s a really fun environment in there.”

The ‘time-slot’ ticketed event saw traders spaced out, one-household shopping bubbles, and a strict mask policy.

"It’s the new way of doing events,” Emma said.

"There’s been a lot of chopping and changing with restrictions, but as regards to the new tier system, we’ve made sure everyone is masked up, in their household bubbles, and everyone is socially distanced.

"We also have clear signage everywhere, and lots of hand sanitiser dispensers.

“It’s really nice to see people coming out to support small businesses like this that need it the most.

"Covid hit everyone hard, but particularly small independent businesses, as events like this just stopped.

"For many of them, this is their main source of revenue, it’s how they get out and see their customers.

"Tickets sales for today have been great, and people have been happy to queue outside for the experience, so it’s been a really positive day.”
