Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? No? Well, the Halloween trail at Renishaw Hall and Gardens won’t be exactly like that, but it does promise frightful family fun.

All visitors are invited to dare to scare in Halloween fancy dress as they participate in a pumpkin trail around the beautiful and huge gardens which will be decorated in keeping with the spooky season.

Families will be given a map and children will be able to explore the gardens, finding the many pumpkins hidden throughout, each of which contain clues to a riddle. There will be a letter and number painted on each pumpkin, and after collecting all of them, children will be able to solve the riddle and win a prize.

But there will be no losers at this event, and every child will be given a goody bag packed with sweets. A face painting stall will also be on site to ensure that visitors look suitably terrifying.

Mum and dad won’t be left out either, as Pudgins, a Sheffield-based dessert flavoured gin company will also have a stall at the event. Their flavours include lemon drizzle, tiramisu, and jam rolypoly and custard.

Project D will also have a stall, selling delicious and decadent doughnuts to delighted little devils.

And if that’s not enough, Renishaw Hall Cafe will be open and serving all sorts of Halloween treats too.

Renishaw Hall is an historic country house in Derbyshire that has been a part of the Sitwell family for almost four centuries and some eagle eyed visitors may recognise is as a shooting location for the 1980 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

The elaborate Italianate gardens were laid out in the late 19th Century by Sir George Sitwell who was the eccentric great-grandfather of the current owner Alexandra Sitwell.

The trail will be held in one hour sessions throughout the day from October 29-31 and booking is essential.

Adult tickets are £5, children are £4, and under 5s go free.
