15. Dine out in style at top restaurants
Sheffield has some highly acclaimed restaurants, such as Rafters in Nether Green, Jöro at Shalesmoor and the Old Vicarage at Ridgeway, which is just over the border with North East Derbyshire and held a Michelin star for many years. The meal pictured is from the latter - it's roast fillet of saddle of wild fallow deer with chestnut forcemeat, buttered local porcini and roasted rosemary potatoes, with cranberry and ginger compote. 16. Marvel at the Alfred Denny Museum
The Alfred Denny Museum of Zoology at Sheffield University is a little-known treat - it was established in 1905 and named after the department's first professor of biology. It is normally open for tours on the first Saturday of each month. Highlights include a rare Japanese giant salamander and casts of a fossilised pterodactyl. Photo: Chris Lawton
