There are a number of sites in and around Sheffield where you can choose your own pumpkin to carve ready for October 31.
Many also include family activities, like face-painting, spooky Halloween trails, and crafting sessions.

Graves Park Animal Farm
Graves Park Animal Farm in Sheffield is holding its pumping picking and woodland walk event on October 19 and 20, and October 26-31.
Tickets cost £7 per child and £1 per adult, which includes one pumpkin per child, and free entry to the animal farm.

Hide AdAs well as picking their own pumpkin from more than 500 available each day, youngsters can look out for Wilma the Witch on the ‘Nightmare at the Farm’ woodland walk.
The pumpkin area and woodland walk is open from 10am-3pm each day. Dogs are not allowed.
There’s no need to book ahead. You can just turn up on the day.

Hide AdWhirlow Hall Farm Indoor Pumpkin Patch
You don’t have to worry about the weather if you go pumpkin picking at Sheffield’s Whirlow Hall Farm, as it’s under cover in the lambing barn.
The pumpkin picking is open on October 19 and 20, and from October 26-31, from 11am to 3pm each day.
Entry costs £2 per person, with under-12s going free. Dogs are welcome.
It includes access to the farm and play area, Halloween-themed games, spooky children’s crafts. Visitors pay per pumpkin.

Hide AdThere will be refreshments available from the farm’s Coffee Coop Trailer, and the onsite cafe and farm shop is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
Booking is advised, with any remaining tickets being sold on the door. All the money raised will support the farm’s work with vulnerable children and young people.

Cannon Hall Farm
The pumpkin patch at Cannon Hall Farm, on Bark House Lane, in Cawthorne, Barnsley, (S75 4AT), was last year crowned the best in the UK.

Hide AdAlmost 10,000 pumpkins are available to pick, with expert carvers on hand to create your perfect spooky lantern.
Entry includes access to the farm, the outdoor adventure playground and indoor soft play, sheep and ferret racing, animal talks and the reptile and mammal house.
Visitors are encouraged to wear fancy dress, with prizes on offer, and there will be a fancy dress shop on site. There are spooky quiz sheets for children, which they can complete in return for a treat from the farm’s friendly witch.
This year, there’s also a virtual reality Spooky Halloween Pympkin Ride, with visitors invited to pull on a VR headset and take an exhilarating ride on the Halloween train past pumpkins, ghouls and scarecrows. It is suitable for children aged two and over, but under-12s must be accompanied by an adult with a ride ticket. Tickets cost £5 per person.

Tickets cost £3, with children aged under 12 going free. The entry fee does not include a pumpkin.
Tickets include car parking and entry to the farm, where you can see the animals, sit on a tractor and relax in the picnic area with benches and grass to sit on.
There will be colouring sheets for children, who can also enjoy the hay bale slide, meet Sheldon the Snail and get their face painted in aid of Ashgate Hospice.

Dogs on leads are allowed in the picnic area but not on the pumpkin patch itself. The site is wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

Hide AdYou just pay for your pumpkins and any other accessories you want on the day, with prices ranging from £3 for an extra small pumpkin to £15 for an XXL one.
Pumpkin carving sets, pumpkin buckets, halloween masks, sweets and the farm’s own honey will also be on sale. Refreshments are available too.
As well as the pumpking picking, there is some spooktacular hay bale artwork, making for excellent photo opportunities. This is already fully booked up for some dates, but at the time of writing, entry was available for October 26-30.
The farm has warned that due to 2024 being a difficult growing season there is a possibility it may run out of pumpkins this year, so people are advised to book as early as possible.

This hugely popular free event returns to Sheffield city centre for a 10th year on Sunday, October 27, from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
The entertainment is spread across the city centre, with sci-fi, comic book, gaming and fantasy areas in the Winter Garden, Tudor Square and Peace Gardens, where visitors can meet characters including Darth Vader and the Ghostbusters.
The Peace Gardens and Millennium Square will host spectacular performances, including fiery sword swallowing, chainsaw juggling and mind-bending magic tricks.
Youngsters will be able to learn magic spells, design and make their own wands, and much more.

The Greystones pub, on Greystones Road, Sheffield, is hosting two special Halloween gigs aimed at children aged 0-7 on Sunday, October 27, at 10.30am and Thursday, October 31, at 2.15pm.

Celluloid Screams 2024
The frighteningly fantastic horror film festival is returning to Sheffield’s Showroom Cinema for its 16th annual edition, from October 24-27.
This year’s line-up includes a mix of premieres, previews, special guests and more. Highlights include the UK premiere of Steven Kostanski’s Frankie Freako, and the chance to watch Nick Frost as a religious homemaker facing down a home invasion in Krazy House.
