Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre has reopened for its autumn run of shows with a newly-refurbished balcony.

The uppermost seats for the historic Victorian theatre needed an upgrade after thirty years of audiences, said operator Sheffield Theatres.

Works on the Grade II listed building were paid for with cash raised by a ‘small restoration levy’ added to show booking from October 2025.

It comes as the theatre gears up for its autumn season of shows including Mamma Mia, Horrible Histories, and the much-anticipated award-winning annual pantomime.

Meanwhile, the nearby Crucible will soon close for its own refurbishments.

Chief executive Tom Bird said: “While the Crucible is closed for refurbishment, the Lyceum will also double as our flagship producing space, so it’s terrific to be able to get this work done ahead of that.”
